Webster Health and Education Network-A Drug Free Community Coalition

One of the goals of WISE is to engage with organizations that work with mental health challenges, and be in shared mission and advocacy.  We also pledge to educate ourselves on what the organizations offer.  One of these organizations is WHEN, actually WHEN:DFCC, which stands for Webster Health and Education Network-A Drug Free Community Coalition.

On July 18 our Caring Community Concerts will be supporting, WHEN. So, we’d like to share some information about WHEN.

WHEN:DFCC promotes healthy lifestyles in our community.  It strives to reduce early drug and alcohol exposure, promote awareness regarding risk factors and strengthens collaboration among community groups.

WHEN:DFCC is comprised of volunteer members from many sectors of the Webster community including representatives from business, faith-based organizations, law enforcement, school district, parents, youth serving organizations, civic, healthcare, media organizations and youth.

Some of the coalition’s highlights and activities include:
 - prescription drug reclamation, in conjunction with the Webster Police Department and town of Webster (710 pounds collected in October and 624 pounds in April)
-dissemination of “safety reminder cards” at prom and ball time
-endorsement and outreach regarding the “Tobacco 21” legislation
-creation of an anti-vaping quiz and video for all students and parents
-3 community Naloxone (the antidote for opioid overdose) trainings, reaching more than 160 people
-Youth mental health first aid training
-various forms of community outreach through the WHEN:DFCC website and Facebook page.

WHEN continues to expand their capacity and welcomes new members. Their meetings are typically the second Wednesday of the month at 12:00 and are held at Spry Middle School in the Webster School District Offices. For more information or if you are interested in joining WHEN, please contact Janine Sanger at 216-0026 or http://www.whencoalition.com.

Hope you’ll be at the concert July 18.
